Parent Coaching

Parenting can be tough, but you don't have to do it alone.

In parent coaching, I listen to the specific challenges you're facing right now, and we talk through new ideas you can try at home. Polyvagal theory and attachment theory give us a foundation, and from there we get creative about what works for your family and your individual child(ren).

When parent coaching might be a good fit:

  • You're feeling overwhelmed and need support to help your child(ren) thrive.

  • You're burned out from battles with your kids and want to feel more confident in your parenting.

  • You're feeling disconnected from your child and want ideas for repairing the relationship, especially if your child isn't willing to take part in family therapy.

  • Your child or teen isn't ready or willing to attend therapy. For example, a younger child who becomes easily dysregulated or physically aggressive, or a teen who is clearly struggling but says they aren't interested in therapy.

  • Parenting is going okay, but you'd like new ideas to support your growing child(ren).

Parent coaching vs. mental health therapy

(Parent coaching isn't available alongside mental health therapy with the same family. It’s a tough choice, but you can either choose therapy OR coaching.)

    • Medical treatment for people experiencing mental health challenges

    • Can be covered by insurance or HSA funds

    • Requires a diagnosis and measurable goals in a treatment plan

    • Parent support (not medical treatment)

    • Private pay only

    • No diagnosis or treatment goals, which leaves room to be flexible, creative, and collaborative

Please note: parent coaching can't be combined with therapy services for the same individual or family.

‍ ‍What to expect:

Sessions are 50 minutes, in person at my Beaverton office or by telehealth. We'll start with what's feeling hardest right now, then work toward a few realistic strategies to try between sessions. Your child doesn't need to attend.

‍ ‍Investment

  • Single Session: one 50-minute appointment, $175

  • Ground: three 50-minute appointments, $500

  • Connect: five 50-minute appointments, $750

  • Growth: ten 50-minute appointments, $1,400

Cancellation policy:

Appointments canceled with less than 24 hours' notice will incur a $50 late-cancel fee. Appointments canceled with less than 1 hour's notice, or missed entirely, will be charged the full appointment fee.
